Starting a website with us is easy! We provide
many tools to get your website built quickly in just a few
clicks. For example: Want a photo gallery? Click on our Photo
Album setup page, enter a name for the album, and click
"Install." Here's an overview of the whole process:
Step 1 - Choose a domain name
A domain name is a word or phrase that usually ends in
either ".com", ".org", or ".net". (But we can host any domain
extension or country code.) For example, our domain name is "getwebspace.com".
Your domain name is your address on the internet, and uniquely
identifies your site - no two websites can have the same domain
name. There is a central registry that keeps track of who has
what domain name.
Your domain name becomes the base of your email addresses,
too. For example, if your domain is "thesmithfamily.com" then
you can have any email address that ends in "@thesmithfamily.com"
like "john@thesmithfamily.com" or "megan@thesmithfamily.com".
Our packages include enough email accounts to give everybody
their own address. And since you own the domain, you never have
to change your address again - it goes with you.
Be creative! For personal sites, many people choose to register
their name, like johnsmith.com or thesmithfamily.com. You can
also try a combination with a favorite hobby or interest.
Businesses often try to get their business name, or use industry
terms. In general, the shorter the domain, the better and easier
for visitors to remember.
Step 2 - Find a hosting provider
We strongly recommend GetWebSpace.com. Like, a lot. But
seriously... Your domain name needs a physical place for your
website's files to be stored. A website host essentially rents
you some space and manages all the technical aspects like global
name resolution, service monitoring, security updates, and
hardware maintenance - to name a few. The web host's job is to
make all that transparent, so that your website simply just
works.
After you sign up with us, we handle everything for you. We will
take care of registering your domain name and assigning the
necessary parameters to make it functional. We will provision
your webspace and prepare your email addresses. Once
everything's ready - usually within an hour - we'll send you all
the details, just for your reference.
Step 3 - Begin building a website
Once you sign up with us, we'll send you a detailed,
step-by-step guide to making your first website. From there,
you'll have the framework to experiment. As mentioned above, our
pre-installed tools allow you to add things like Photo
Galleries, Blogs, Guestbooks, and more, with just a few clicks.
We support many popular editing tools like Frontpage,
Dreamweaver, and you can also access your site using FTP or our
web-based File Manager. If you're not familiar with any of these
- don't worry! We'll help you choose the best method.
Step 4 - Enjoy!
You can really put as much or as little time into your
website as you like. As you learn more about being a webmaster,
you can always add to your site, or make changes, at your own
pace. Whether you work best at 2pm or 2am, your site's always
ready to go.
